Calling Churches
>> Thursday, July 19, 2007
A couple of months ago we sent letters to about 20 churches in our area and didn't hear back from ANY of them. So, after some encouragement from our PA, I started calling them to "follow-up". I have to say that it is sort of humbling to introduce yourself to someone you don't know and say you're looking for financial support. It's definitely the type of phone calls that get me nervous. Thankfully, most people have been really nice and one pastor even said he felt bad that they had never gotten back to us. But it's difficult when you get the impression that you're annoying the person you're talking to. We definitely have gotten a lot of "Thanks but we're not in the position to add new missionaries at this time." I feel like we have such a long way to go in raising support. But just when I start to get discouraged, God always finds a way to make me remember that He is in control and that it will happen.

Ugh. I can't imagine being so certain that God wants you to travel down a path, yet the obstacles to get to the goal seem so big. Praying for you. I was wondering if you'd fallen off the blogging wagon! ;)
Renee, your patience in the face of such obstacles and discouragment is a real testimony of your faith and very inspiring to me.
I hate calling churches too! But one thing that we have realized is that sometimes you have to get on the churches 'waiting list'. Some have come back after several months or a couple of years and said they wanted to support us after all! Patience is the main thing... then second is just getting your name and ministy out there.
