SPD (which we pronounce "Spud") sands for "Sing, Pray, Devotions". We know that when pronounced SPD doesn't really sound like spud, but we couldn't think of an acronym that actually sounded like a word. ;-) If we have to use the U, Damien just says it's "Sing, Pray, uh Devotions." :-) Anyway, now that Orin is getting older, we decided we wanted to have a little more structure to his nighttime routine. Since he was born we have been reading, singing and praying before bedtime, but at this point we decided we need to branch out a little bit with the praying. Not that we don't love praying for every person Orin knows (or can remember at that moment) every night, but we want to teach him that there is more to pray for than "Aunt Christina & Uncle Rob far, far away in the Philippines, Mimie, Nina, and Pops" and various other family and friends. So we came up with a little schedule for prayer, a topic or two for each night of the week - corresponding to the name of the week. We're sure that this will evolve over time, but we're excited that we have a little more structure and hope that this will help to encourage our boy's spiritual journey as they grow. Here is our little schedule. Orin doesn't completely get the idea (sometimes he'll ask to pray for "Spud") but seems to like it. We're open to any suggestions or ideas!
Sunday – Sick, Sorrowing, & Suffering
Monday – Missionaries
Tuesday – This Family & Thankfulness
Wednesday – Wisdom
Thursday – Those in Authority
Friday – Friends and Family
Saturday – Salvation & Spiritual Growth
