My First Field Trip

>> Friday, February 11, 2011

As I participate in more and more of these school activities with Orin I'm feeling more and more like a "mom." I know it's strange, but I have such vivid memories of doing these things when I was in school, it's so surreal to be doing them with my own child!

Today Orin and I went on our first field trip. His first as a student, and my first as a mom. We went to the Siam Insect Zoo & Museum. A little place out in Mae Rim...about 30 minutes away. It's so nice that he was thrilled that I was coming...so I'm going to do things as much as I can while he still wants me too (ya know, before he realizes I'm embarrassing) :-) I was fun to ride in the van with him and some other kids. I enjoy watching how he is with his teachers and friends. He's definitely an introvert and a loner. Not in a sad way. In a "I'm ok just to sit and eat my snack by myself" way. It's like he doesn't even notice the other kids sometimes...he's in his own little world. He has four teachers (two of them are Thai - Miss. Tip & Mr. Noom, one from the US and one from New Zealand). He seems to have taken a special liking to Miss. Tip and she to him. But, I could be wrong...I only saw them for the morning. It's been such an experience this past month as we've transitioned into this new stage of school days!

Excited to be in the van on the way!

His class and teachers (minus Mr. Noom who was also taking pictures).

A quick snack before hitting the museum.

This was the guide from the museum. He was very excited about the subject matter, but I think most of the kids were lost by his thick accent. But they were all so great and listened quietly.

Reading the names of each insect.

Orin and Miss. Tip. They were sitting and talking for a while so I thought I'd take a picture. Then he started acting silly and hiding.

Finally got one!

One of his teachers answering a question he asked.

Orin couldn't wait to get into the butterfly garden.
Orin took this next two. I normally don't take pics of nature, but Orin was having fun with my camera. I thought these shots he took were pretty good! For a 5 year old...

I thought this face was funny. He was obviously very interested or confused by whatever he was looking at. :-)

The view from the entrance to the museum.
