Visit To The Dallas Zoo

>> Wednesday, February 25, 2009

We decided to try out the Dallas Zoo. We heard that it wasn't as nice as the Fort Worth Zoo, but it was cheaper, closer and has a AAA discount so we figured we'd try it out first. After living in DC for 6 years and having a free zoo, it's hard to pay. The zoo itself was ok. We couldn't' believe how small the areas were for some of the animals and that many were in cages. It doesn't help that the three zoos we've been to (San Diego Zoo, Washington D.C. Zoo, and the Audubon Zoo in NOLA) are some of the nicest in the country. The Dallas Zoo did have some fun nice areas too, and we had a lot of fun. We got there around noon, had a picnic lunch and stayed until it closed at 5:30pm. We're going to try out the Fort Worth Zoo next - hopefully on a Tuesday when tickets are half price!

There was a great monorail-type ride. One of the best parts of the zoo. We all loved it.

The kids section of the zoo was great. The kids loved the huge fish tank. We sat for a while and just watched.
Taking a break for some ice cream. This ice cream was vanilla but for some horrible reason they put this incredibly dark food coloring in it. I'll never be getting those stains out. This was actually Orin's cone but he shared with Caiah.

I couldn't believe how much they got into looking for the animals. Orin's goal was to look in each little cage to try to find the animal. He'd keep looking until he found it no matter how long it took. Once he found it he would move onto the next one.

The Fort Worth Zoo has always been better. If they have the little train that goes all round the park take a ride it's fun.Great memories as a child and young adult.
