A Good Day

>> Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Well, I can't believe I'm 31. Turning 31 was about as weird as turning 30. Not bad or sad, just weird. I'm not sure why. Maybe because my kids are still young. When my parents and my parents friends were 30 and 31, their kids were much older. I was 9 or 10 when my mom turned 31. Or maybe it's because I FEEL like I'm still in my 20's. But when I look at people in their early or mid twenties I realize that I am different then them and in a different season of life.

Anyway, back to my birthday. The kids were great all day. That has a big impact on how my day goes. Most of the time they play so well together. But on those days where they argue, fight, and take each others toys I get to work a lot on my patience and calm spirit. We spent much of the morning trying on clothes. Well, me putting clothes on them, watching them run around for a few minutes and then calling them back to put on another outfit. Orin is between sizes it really depends on the cut of the clothes and brand rather than the size that determines if he can wear it. They did well though and remained in good spirits throughout the ordeal! :-)

I've been wanting to try a Mexican place called Monica Aca Y Alla. On Tuesdays the entrees are half price (awesome) so it was the perfect night to go. It wasn't the best Mexican I've ever had, but it was good and we had fun. I tried to get Damien to tell them it was my birthday (I really wanted the free dessert) but he didn't' want to risk the happy birthday singing.

Damien's been working so much he hadn't really had any time to go to the store or plan anything. So after dinner they dropped me off at home and went to the store. They got back with flowers, candles and a cake that the kids had picked out. I have to say, the flowers were the weirdest, coolest I had ever seen. Damien said Orin had first picked out pick flowers (of course), but when he saw these traded in the pick flowers for the ones with "cool colors!"

By this time it was almost 10pm. They sang "Happy birthday" twice and we blew out the candles three times. Micaiah could have kept going.

I told the kids that because it was my birthday they had to give me kisses whenever I wanted. That was the best part of the day. Since Orin is all about the amount of things being equal of his age (I'll tell him he can have four pieces of candy but he'll say, "I want three because I'm three.") we did 31 kisses in a row quite a few times. Daddy got in on that one and got 30 kisses from them a few times too. Like I said, a good day.

Orin and Micaiah were very serious about putting the candles into the cake. The picked out balloon candles.

Micaiah sneaking little pieces of chocolate off of the top.
Orin smelling my flowers.

You can tell how excited Caiah was about lighting the candles. Orin seemed mesmerized.Really enjoying the cake.

Hands are a much more useful tool than the fork!

Happy Birthday, Renee! I agree that I still feel like I am in my 20's. I don't think we really ever feel old. At least that is what some of my older friends say. I guess we will find out in our own time:)
Glad it was a good day.
