Street Festival Fun

As a family we really enjoy going to street festivals. For one thing, they are free. Secondly, there is usually music which the kids (and us) really love. It's a great way to get outside and experience a little culture at the same time. In early April, my brothers Aaron and Joel stopped by for the weekend while driving from CA to NOLA. It was great to show them around the Center and give them a little taste for what our lives are like here in Dallas. The boys LOVED every minute of having them here. On Sunday, we went downtown to the Deep Ellum Arts Festival. We live south of downtown and the church we go to us about 30 minutes north. On Sunday's we often try to do something between our house and the church so we'll be a little closer for the 5:30pm service. We had a lot of fun there just hanging out with Aaron and Joel. The kids loved the music of course. The only bad thing was the wind. Dallas can get some seriously windy weather. I am not a fan. Here are pictures of our fun.

Orin saw this random art in the middle of the road and really wanted to look at it. We didn't understand at first, but you can see from the pictures why he wanted to look at it.

As you all know by now, Caiah loves singing, listening to music, and pretending to play a guitar. He must have danced around and "played" the guitar for 30 minutes straight. People were stopping as they walked by to watch him and laugh. It was like he was part of the entertainment. Orin loved climbing all over Uncle Joel.


They loved sitting and just watching the entertainment. We must have sat here for 30 minutes and watched these two men sing.

There were a lot of booths with art. Orin was particularly enthralled by this piece. It had little solider men in place of stars. He loves playing with his little army men at home. I think having an Uncle that is a soldier makes him even more interested. Ironically, the artist was trying to make a statement about war because all of the soldiers at arms or legs were broken off. Luckily Orin didn't notice and we didn't have to explain why...
I have a great video of Miciah rocking out to the music. We think it's pretty entertaining. Unfortunately I had problems uploading it to both YouTube and Blogger. So I put it on my Facebook page if you're interested in watching it.
