Fevers, Enchaladas, & Poop

>> Wednesday, May 13, 2009

I mentioned in my last post that Orin was sick last week. We'll it still hasn't gone away. He's had a fever for 9 days straight. That seems like a really long time to us. He's spent a lot of time laying on the couch. I've spend a lot of time holding him on the couch at his request. It's nice because we don't get much cuddle time with him. But we're ready for our energetic Orin back. He's missed a lot of school and misses being able to play outside with his friends.

This is where we've often seen Orin over the past week. Doesn't he look pitiful?
He's asked us to read a lot to him. Damien loved the Velveteen Rabbit as a child. We got Orin the book on CD from the library for him to listen to and since then he's been obsessed with it. He likes to quote his favorite sections of the book. I really need to get it on video!
This is actually a different day than the first picture.
Apart from Orin being sick I had a nice Mother's Day. Damien decided that they would cook me my favorite dinner. Cheese Enchiladas with beans and rice. Damien went all out and made everything from scratch. Including the sauce from chili peppers. He spent an hour on it - roasting them, steaming them, boiling them and baking. Seriously, it was a long process. But it was so good. Much better than all of Tex-Mex restaurants around here. We even had extra sauce that we froze to use again. Orin tried to help but had to lay down much of the time. Poor kid. I thought it was sweet because they kept calling it, "Mommy's Day." Orin kept asking, "So is tomorrow Orin's day? When is daddy's day and Caiah's day?" I'm so lucky to be a mommy to such cute, wonderful, sweet boys and have such a great husband.

Doesn't that look awesome? It tasted as good as it looks!
This is probably TMI, but Caiah pooped for the first time last Friday. Yeah! It was sort of an accident but having the feeling of doing it just that one time made all of the difference. He was yelling "I pooped in the potty" over and over. But it was hilarious because he was so excited but also a little freaked out at the same time. He's gone quite a few times since then with no accidents. I thought Orin potty trained quickly, but Caiah has been even easier. It has to be the M&Ms. Orin got them as a reward as well, but Micaiah LOVES any kind of sweet. He's had more chocolate in the past two weeks than in the past year. We decided to not give treats for pee any more. We warned him yesterday that it was the last day but he still threw a tantrum this morning when he went potty and I wouldn't give him candy. But after the one meltdown he was fine. My only problem now is figuring out what to do with all the extra time I'll have now that I'm not washing cloth diapers every two days!

Looking at his first poop in the potty.
Doesn't he look cute in his underwear?

We told him that when he pooped in the potty we'd take him to the store and he could pick out a toy. He's totally into cars right now. We think it's because he loves small things. He's really attached to toys we have that are small. He loves to sleep with them and just walk around with them in his hand.

Boy, have I been out of the loop! Is Damien your husband?

And what happened to Caiah's arm? I saw it wrapped up in an ace bandage in one of the photos.

I'll be praying that Orin gets better soon. I don't know much about fevers, but it seems like 9 days is a long time to have a fever...

Good job Caiah!

I hope Orin gets better soon. I know the doctors always tell us more than 3 days is too many

Oh,those precious boys! Love all the pictures. I'm glad Orin is better now. I hope he stays well.

Great job on the MD meal Damien! Wow, it looks so delicious I could just reach in and grab some. LOL

Another big milestone for you! Caiah is moving on up.... it's bittersweet to me. Wow, no more diapers, at least for a while. Love you all!
