First Day of 2nd Grade and Kindergarten

School started on August 14 but since we didn't get back to Thailand until the 23rd the kids started a bit late. We returned to Chiang Mai on Friday and they started Monday. Poor guys were both still jet lagged. But they did surprisingly well.
Micaiah started Kindergarten. He's been waiting forever to be in school full time. He loved part time preschool last year and is thrilled to be in Kindergarten. His class is pretty interesting. There are 4 full time teachers in his class and only 17 kids. It's an amazing ratio. Even crazier, 16 of the kids are boys with only 1 poor little girl. He has two main teachers and two Thai teachers in his class. One teacher is from Syria and the other is from Ireland. Only one other kid in is class is from the US. Other kids are from all over the world.
Orin started 2nd grade. Last year was such an integral year for him. He had the perfect teacher for his personality and stage in life. He learned so much which has already helped him this year so far. His teacher is from the US. She has been teaching for 11 years. She is nice but definitely tough. I think Orin was prepared well because his teacher last year. His teacher, Mrs. Thompson expects a lot from them. They have to be truly responsible for everything. There is a system of Green, Yellow, Orange and Red. If they forget a book or their lunch money, forget to raise their hand, etc. they move to yellow and have to stay in from recess for a few minutes. I very interested to see how this all turns out for Orin. :)
These pictures of the two of them are actually from the second day of school. We are horrible parents and did decide until about 30 minutes before school started that they were going to go. We just weren't sure they couldn't handle it with the jet lag. But we figured we'd throw them into the deep end. Orin cried and wanted "just one more day" but Micaiah was thrilled. So we were in such a rush I threw some rolls at them and we headed out of the door. So it wasn't until the second day that we had a special breakfast (donuts) and I had a chance to take pictures on the way to school. As we walked I stopped them every once in a while to get a picture in.
On the way to their school we walk through a Thai school. The kids always stare at us, but they were even more so because I was taking pictures. Orin was embarrassed.

"Threw them in the deep end." LOL Love it. I'm glad to see them back into a routine right away so they will get over their US homesickness quicker. Great pics - glad you took them!!
