We needed to get away...

>> Saturday, November 21, 2009

A couple of weeks ago we had a bad week. It was the week we found out that Sora was going to be coming home over a month later than we had hoped. We also had a few other things not go the way we had been hoping. So after Orin's final soccer game on Saturday morning we decided to go on an overnight trip. See, you can be spontaneous with kids. We stared looking for a place to go around 12:30 and we were packed and on the road by 1:30. We drove through Chick-Fil-A for lunch and the kids napped the rest of the way. Where were we going, you ask? Well, we wanted to go somewhere pretty close, but still feel like we were getting away. So we went down to Glen Rose, TX. Glen Rose is sort of known as Dinosaur Town. Dinosaur Valley State Park is only a few miles away and has fossilized footprints of actual dinosaurs. Pretty cool. There are other attractions such as Dinosaur World and Fossil Rim. It was a fun weekend and a great distraction from everything that was going on. It was nice to come home rested and ready to jump back in to real life.

Caiah getting his nap in on the way to Glen Rose. Notice he has his sunglasses on. Too cute.
There were only about three hotels to pick from in this small little town so we stayed at the Best Western because it had an outdoor pool that was heated. Well, at least that's what it said on the web site. When we got there we found out the info was wrong. But the kids had their hearts set on swimming. There was a kiddie pool, an adult pool, and a hot tub. So they went back and forth between all three. Crazy kids! The kiddie and adult pool were FREEZING. I think Orin liked the rush but Micaiah was just doing it to follow Orin. Here is Orin freezing his butt off in the kiddie pool.

Enjoying the hot tub.

Micaiah after he jumped into the adult pool. He was freezing...but still trying to smile.

Enjoying a movie before bed. They LOVE when we go to a hotel...which doesn't often.

We would have loved to go to Fossil Rim. It's a huge wildlife center where you can drive around and see all sorts of wild animals. Unfortunately, it's very expensive so we decided to save it for another time (maybe when we have a coupon or something). So we went to Dinosaur Valley State Park. I'm so glad we did. The kids had a BLAST (and we did too). There were two life-size dinosaurs at the entrance. The kids were really into them. Here they were running away from the scary T-rex. :-)
Looking at the dinosaur footprints. They were pretty cool. I'm not sure if the boys actually saw them or not.

We went on quite a few hikes. I love this picture. Orin is holding this leaf he found and really liked. It was surprising beautiful out there.

Can you guess what Damien is helping Orin do here?

At one of the sites where you can view the dinosaur tracks you had to cross river over some rocks. The river must have been high because almost all of the rocks were submerged. That didn't stop us. We left our shoes and rolled up our pants and crossed over. I think it was the kids favorite part of the day.

I love watching this one walk away. He's just too cute.

Damien helped Orin cross the river on the way back. Here Damien is rolling up Orin's pants - just a little too late. He had already stepped into the water and was soaked.

I thought his smile here was so cute.

Poor boy after he wiped out on the steps.

Wow, brings back good memories. Bob and I took the kids there before we even had Kevin. We had so much fun. We even went swimming in the water. I lost my glasses and we could never find them. What fun times.

So glad you got away for the weekend. Fun to be spontaneous! The more kids, the harder that gets to do. LOL LOVE all the pics, but yes, the one of Orin is precious. It's now my new desktop wallpaper. ;)

I can't believe they swam in the unheated pool! BRR!
