Fall Pumpkins

>> Thursday, November 13, 2008

Our most recent art project was to make a paper pumpkin. I think it was good because the kids had to tear the construction paper (which isn't as easy as you would think). As much fun as it is to do crafts, I think it's also good for them developmentally, even if just a little bit. Orin really loves doing it. Micaiah does too, but sometimes like to branch out on his own which is fine.

We started out with simple pumpkins that I printed. Notice Orin had his action figured watching the entire time. I notice when looking at my blog that my kids are often not fully clothed. I guess this is a routine we have going. I think on this day Orin had too much fun washing his hands - now that we're wearing long sleeved shirts they can get a little too wet for comfort. It was almost time for lunch so I wasn't about to put another shirt on for him to get dirty.

Each of them tore up the orange paper into small pieces. It was cute to see how hard Micaiah tried to do it...often only tearing off the tiniest little speck. But he would throw his hands in the air and say, "I did it!" Needless to say I helped a little.

We then put glue all over the pumpkin...

...and stuck on all of our pieces.

Micaiah liked this part. (Notice the orange paper in his hair!)

I then cut out the pumpkins. Orin loves to practice cutting but still can't do much with the scissors. Orin wanted to take a picture of me cutting it out. I think we have a future photographer here! ;-)

They put glue all over the pumpkin and placed in onto a black piece of paper.

This is where Micaiah decided to detour from the plan. He wanted to color the black piece of paper instead.

All done. Orin is very proud as you can see.
