Art Display Board

>> Friday, January 30, 2009

Since we've been doing so much crafting lately, I've totally run out of room to display the art - which the kids love to do. The fridge is taken up with the things that Orin does at school each week. Even then, I can only leave something up a week or two because he's always bringing stuff home. So the crafts we do at home usually either get thrown in the trash right away or just sit in a pile. So, I decided to get a bulletin board to display the stuff we make at home, even if just for a little while before it gets replaced by new things. I didn't really want an ugly bulletin board hanging in my kitchen so I covered it with cloth and ribbon to make it look at least a little pretty. The best part was how cheap it was. I had a coupon for the bulletin board at Hobby Lobby, and then went to boutique and got a twin mattress pad to use for the padding, a bed sheet for my material, and free ribbon. I LOVE the boutique. I even discovered a 'craft' area and got some glitter, stamps, sponges, and other fun stuff to use with the kids. Here is a picture of the board with some of our recent projects. We made a 'rainbow R', a valentine butterfly, an 'O' where the kids practiced lacing ribbon through holes (Orin wanted to do the letters in his name; we'll do 'I' and 'N' next). Today we did ribbon painting. Micaiah was funny because by the end he would hold his fingers right near the end of the ribbon and was practically using it as a brush.

Threading our 'O'. I'm not exactly sure what the string had to do with an 'O' but it was fun for them.
Orin decided to go fishing with his 'O' and Caiah had to copy of course. Orin said he caught a shark - wow!

Play dough fun one afternoon while Caiah napped. It's been a while since we've done it so Orin was really into it.

Ribbon painting. Caiah holding it right at the tip trying to use it as a paintbrush.
Orin having fun finger-painting when we were finished.
