Eventful Year

>> Saturday, January 10, 2009

This year has definitely been one of the busiest years since we were married. We've certainly never lived in so many states in one year. In my mind the year was split into 'thirds'.

The first third of the year we were still in Virginia continuing to live with some gracious friends in their basement. We spent much of our time final time there speaking at churches and groups trying to get to 100% support. In March, Damien gave notice at work letting them know he would be resigning.

In April we moved about half of our belongings to New Orleans to live with family. We spent our summer trying to raise the rest of our support and soaking up as much family time as possible. Damien and I left the kids overnight for the first time ever and celebrated our 10th anniversary (even though it wasn't until January 2) in Jamaica. In August, we headed back to Virginia to be commissioned from our church, pick up the rest of our belongings, and head to Texas.

In September, we made it to Dallas, Texas! After two years of prayer and planning, we were finally taking our first assignment as missionaries. We also started the process of adoption. We ended the year by spending Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years in New Orleans with family.

We feel like our poor kids have been through so much change - at least more change than most kids go through in a year. By God's grace we made it through in one piece. And I think as a family we're closer because of it. Although 2009 probably won't be quite as eventful, we are looking forward to the plans God has for us. Will we finalize our adoption and bring a new child into our family? Will we have more of an idea of if, when, and where we might have an overseas assignment? We're looking forward to find out!
