I guess not much has changed in a year - Orin's favorite thing in the world is Star Wars and again he requested a Star Wars party. We were just going to invite two little boys from his class at school but then he mentioned how much he wished J and A could be there. They are friends of his that live in countries nearby. Obviously we couldn't invite them. But then we realized that Orin's birthday was actually during our annual SIL conference...and both boys would be there as well as the boys from his class. So it really worked out perfectly. Once I started planning I realized that it was not easy to plan a party to happen 3 days after you arrive at a hotel. We had to find a place to keep the cake and ice cream, as well as bring all of those little things that you wouldn't have to worry about if you had the party at home. But it all worked out and I think the kids had a fun time. He wanted a star wars cake of course. Unfortunately, without Walmart or Ebay or Amazon I was pretty lost. You can't get anything Star Wars here in Thailand. I guess it never took off in Thailand like other US shows/movies have. I also had the added issue of having to take it with us to Conference and then leave it in the Resort refrigerator for 3 days. So I couldn't do any huge standing cake like R2-D2. I think Orin was happy with how it turned out and was excited to pick out the two figures to put on top.
Here he is talking to Mimie the morning of his birthday. We were eating breakfast at the hotel. It's so neat that even half-way across the world we can talk on the cell phone to family and friends. Thank you Skype!!!!
So I ended up doing some of the same games as last year. For one, because Orin really liked them, and two, because I chose them last year because they were the easiest games to prepare. I was not in the situation to get any more complicated this year! This is "Pass the Death Star." When the music stops whoever has the Death Star gets to keep the candy inside.
Orin loves mazes so we printed out a few mazes - from easy to difficult - and put a Star Wars theme and two star wars pictures on it (like "Help Luke Skywalker get to his Light Saber" and we put Luke at the beginning and the light saber at the end). I was little worried about them because I wasn't sure if other kids would be interested in doing mazes but they were a hit! They are all kids of SIL people so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. :-)
This game was to see who could use the light-saber to keep the balloon up in the air the longest. It didn't work out that great because it was pretty windy. But the kids still had a great time running around chasing them.
Micaiah was excited after he figured out that he could pop balloons on the bushes. :-)
Some of the adult guests at the party.
All of the kids checking out the cake.
Sora loved the "Yoda Soda" (Lime Sherbet & Ice cream!)
I love how opening presents is the most exciting part of a birthday party...even for the other kids!
I love how they all made cards for him. This is A telling him the story of all of the pictures he drew in the card...they were sharks I think.
I love this picture of all of the kids just hanging out. They look so grown-up.
I think Micaiah will probably want a Star Wars party too...at least I'm prepared! Here is a video of everyone singing happy birthday.
