Camping in Thailand

 Damien gave me a tent last year for my birthday and we finally had a chance to use it in October. We went with some friends up to Doi Inthanon. It's the highest mountain in Thailand. We were mostly excited for the cooler weather (it got into the mid-50's at night) but also pretty curious about what camping in Thailand was going to be like. We went with low (very low) expectations and were pleasantly surprised!

The mountain is a national park, but you can't think National Park like in the US. There is a village up there, right by the camp grounds. There is a Royal Project (which grows a lot food and does farming experimentation . On Saturday we had lunch at a restaurant in the Royal Project. The surroundings were beautiful.

 
The campgrounds were great! It was cleared nicely and clean. When we got there around 4pm there were already TONS of tents set up. Camping is a very trendy thing to do here. But it's definitely an activity for the higher class and wealthy.

I only had my phone to take pictures and the lighting was bad because of the trees. But here are a few pictures of our campsite. It was nice to be able to pull our car right up.

 We sent the kids on a scavenger hunt to help keep them busy. I'm not sure what they were looking for here. :)

The picture doesn't show much, but there was a HUGE, beautiful waterfall coming out of the side of the mountain.

We drove up to the top of the mountain. The temperature is a huge deal since it's also the coldest part of Thailand.

On the way back we stopped to look at a beautiful overview. Not the safest place to be!
