The Seoul Subway

>> Wednesday, March 10, 2010

I'm going to try to post a few of the things I had wanted to in Seoul and never had the chance.

The Seoul subway was amazing. I guess it's because many many people use public transportation. There were always TONs of people, especially during rush hour. It was very organized, clean, and easy to figure out. And luckily, all of the signs were in both Korean and English! Otherwise, we never would have figured it out. The subway was massive. We took it quite a few times, including north, all the way to Uijeongbu, which was a two hour subway trip. Of course, it was somewhat sketchy out that way (not as fancy as in the city) but it still got us to our destination.

This is the station closest to the guest house.

There were these convenient green feet and we told the boys they should stand on them to help the train come. It was a good way to keep them still while waiting. The boys loved riding it at first but after so many times, and riding for so long I think they got sick of it. No matter how crowded it was, someone always got up to give us their seats...mostly because of the kids, I think. We rarely saw other children on the subway.

Although most of it was underground, part was above which was always fun.

I love that these glass doors separated the people who were waiting from the trains. It was so nice not to have to worry about the kids getting too close to the track. Plus, it wasn't windy or noisy when the train arrived.

love the glass separating the waiting people and the train. I have always heard about the subway system there and people being pushed on during rush hour... is that true?
