Wan Dek

>> Tuesday, January 15, 2013

So one of the pretty big holidays here in Thailand is "Wan Dek" (aka "Children's Day). My kids asked what we were going to do special for Children's day. I told them that we aren't doing anything because as Americans, every day was Children's Day. :)

We needed to go to the mall because Micaiah wanted to buy something with his Christmas money, and there was a bunch of stuff going on there, so we "celebrated" at the Airport Plaza. There was an area with a bunch of kids games set up. If you did all of the games (and got stamps) then they would give you a little gifts and you'd be entered for a drawing. It was JAM PACKED! Barely any room to move. But we were brave and tried the games. I don't know how much fun it was for the kids. But they got their prizes.

Sora doesn't do great in these situations. She gets overwhelmed and just freezes. So in the bowling game she just sort of stood there and dropped the ball - she did this 3 times! Finally they just gave her the stamp.

I need to get my boys a hula-hoop. They had no idea what to do with it! I remember winning a hula-hoop contest in 1st grade...they are way behind!

What Sora did want to do was to hug this - well, I don't know what it was - but she hugged it!

There were also a bunch of kids' performances going on during this time so it was LOUD. :Here are a couple of the videos of the craziness. :)

Really cute pictures! Looks like fun. Loved the big green fuzzy whatever. :)

Did you find out any more about this special children's day?
